Halloween Countdown

28 Oct

Halloween spirit is alive and well in Madrid and I love passing storefronts full of ghosts and pumpkins!

And yesterday we picked up a pumpkin at Carrefour Planet and I carved it!

I was proud of my carving handiwork and my pumpkin’s spooky, quirky face.

Other than carving pumpkins this weekend I’ve been watching Spain…On the Road Again and feeling seriously, seriously jealous of the show’s cast, I want to take a gastronomic road trip though Spain!  Yes, please, yes, please!

Happy Friday

26 Oct

Yesterday I had the best surprise in my mailbox, the most adorable card from my parents!  Hope you’re having a spooky Friday!  I’m scheming of tracking down a big pumpkin to carve this afternoon…

25 Oct

Lately I want spicy pumpkin muffins for breakfast every day (and for lunch and dinner too).

And I feel the same way about Buenas y santas, I’m craving their fare all the time.

This Monday I met Kelsey for lunch and we went for my favorite restaurant.  We had salads and risotto and catching up over the best food was such a treat!

And last night Santi made the best salad with roasted chicken for dinner.  I am spoiled!

This week I’ve been loving lunch at Buenas y santas, cool scarf weather, Halloween scheming, and sweet gifts from my second-graders.  Happy Friday!

Pumpkin Muffins

14 Oct

I love this time of year, doesn’t everyone?  One of my favorite things about the fall is the cool, crisp weather and the arrival of baking season.

I’ve spent a few weeks craving my mom’s spicy pumpkin muffins so this weekend I decided to make some myself.  It’s never easy to track down baking ingredients in Madrid and yesterday I made a special trip to Taste of America to pick up some Libby’s pumpkin.

But the afternoon errands on Saturday were worth the trouble, this morning I made a batch of spicy pumpkin muffins.  And they are really, really good!

Buenas y santas

12 Oct

Buenas y santas is one of my most favorite restaurants in Madrid.  And for lunch today we tried their new local in San Bernardo and it lived up to all my expectations, the food was so good.

October Weekend

8 Oct

This past weekend turned out to be surprisingly busy, but in the best kind of way!  We spent a lot of our time noshing on really, really good food.  We started on Saturday afternoon at an Oktoberfest festival at a German church in the city.  I loved my grilled bratwurst and potato salad.  And the homemade cakes were not bad either!

In the afternoon we stopped by the fiestas in Barrio del Pilar.  I had high hopes of taking a ride on the ferris wheel but on closer examination the ride’s little cages moved a bit too much for me and I knew I wouldn’t enjoy myself.

After our walk through the fair we went back to Robert’s house for pizza and pasta.

And on Sunday, after sleeping until 12:30 in the afternoon, we went on a bike ride through the Casa del Campo.

It was the perfect, sunny day for an outdoor excursion!  And after our bike ride we had an impromptu feast at home.  The toasts with guacamole were delicious, I know they are going to become a staple in the weekly menu.

And we ended the weekend watching Real Madrid tie Barcelona 2-2!
