Lately

19 Dec

Lately I have been eating lots of Funfetti cupcakes and loving the beautiful flowers my parents sent for my birthday, my whole bedroom smells luxurious.

Asturias Roundup

16 Dec

Our vacations in Asturias ended last Sunday and I just have a handful of photos left to share from our trip.

On Saturday we visited los Lagos de Covadonga and hiked through the snowy mountains–until my little toes were frozen.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASunday morning before our marathon drive back to the capital we stopped at a market in the center of Cangas de Onís with anchovies, cured meats, fresh breads and pastries, and best of all, cheeses!  To see all the locals with stacks of fresh cheeses was a treat and we were sure to sample and buy lots of different kinds.

25!

14 Dec

Yesterday was my 25th birthday and I had the best day!

Hearing my four second-grade classes sing me “Happy Birthday” and their sweet hugs and kisses was the best present!  Although Santi’s funfetti cake was pretty good too…

Gijón

12 Dec

Last Friday afternoon we stopped in the city of Gijón.  We spent most of our time in Gijón drinking hot chocolate and coffee with milk in an adorable little bar where admired the view of the coast from a cozy couch.

Lastres

11 Dec

On Friday after our walk through Ribadesella we climbed back into the car to drive the 30 kilometers to the fishing village of Lastres.  We had a little lunch at El Descanso and then, despite the cold and the rain, we climbed up and down the town’s narrow streets admiring the Torre del Reloj, the Capilla del Buen Suceso, and of course spectacular views of the sea and mountains.

Ribadesella

9 Dec

We spent Friday visiting coastal towns in Asturias and our first stop was in Ribadesella.  It rained all morning but we still bopped through the town’s narrow streets and ducked in at a bakery for a sweet treat.  And despite a bit of whining about my cold fingers and toes we had a beautiful walk along the water  where the Río Sella meets the Cantabrian Sea.

Hike in the Mountains

8 Dec

On Thursday afternoon we went on a hike along the Ruta de Cares in the Picos de Europa.  Although I had moments of serious vertigo peeking over the edge of the cliff the views were breathtaking and our hike was the perfect way to work up our appetites for cheese and fabada.
